Career DB

This page is a completely self-contained, single-file database of Careers found in Career Compendium, with Talent data as well. Made for easy reference/planning at the table from mobile phone, since I find the Career system too unwieldy and big to navigate with books.
Because it is a single-file page it can easily be downloaded (right click - save page as), edited and shared, and run directly from a phone or computer, no need for server/hosting. Even if you don't plan any edits I recommend downloading it for backup, I don't know how long I'll be able to keep this online. Feel free to use the JSON database for your own projects.
Please report bugs and errors to someguy@national.shitposting.agency - real email not (just) a stupid gag
On mobile phones, search autocomplete only works properly on Chrome (and mobile browsers built on Chrome, like Brave, Edge, Opera and Samsung Internet)
Firefox - GeckoView (Firefox Android's rendering engine) has never implemented the API needed to show datalist-based suggestions
Safari - Autocomplete works, but only shows three suggestions at a time
I will fix this when I have the time

Options/Features

Search field auto-completes, Talents are clickable and generate a popup with description, Career entries/exits are links.
Theme selector - self explanatory, easily edited
d100/d20 dropdown - we play the game converted to d20, roll-under blackjack (like Pendragon). This dynamically changes values from percentages to flat bonuses in Main/Secondary profile and Talents.
As printed/All Links/Core only - Career Compendium did not update Career entries/exits of Core Careers with new ones. For example, Knight of the Blazing Sun has a Career entry from Knight, but Knight does not have Career exit to Knight of the Blazing Sun. Similar problems (to a lesser extent) with supplement Careers.
All Links displays all those connections, 375 new Career exits, most of them for basic Careers like Peasant (24) and Student (15) and 528 new entries, most of them for advanced military Careers like Veteran (23) and Captain (19).
Core Only limits the Careers to only those printed in Core Rules. It is not a dynamic switch like As Printed/All Links or d100/d20, setting it to Core Only will restart the application.
All selections are saved in browser memory.

Text changes - standardization and consistency

I tried to document everything, except typo corrections because there were too many and I can't be 100% sure if they were from book, errors in PDF text layer, introduced (or fixed) by my scrapper etc.
I wanted a clean database and simple script, really didn't want to introduce fuzzy search so some Career entries/exits and Talents had to be normalized.
Careers - some Careers, like Charcoal Burner, were referenced in some entries/exits as Charcoal-Burner, Roadwarden as Road Warden etc. It was all normalized to match actual Career name exactly, except in the case of River Warden, the name itself was changed to a single word to be consistent with other "wardens".

Priest dedication - Some Careers have specific dedication/worship requirements, Black Guard can only be entered by a Priest of Morr for example. The naming convention in Career entries was all over the place, Priest (Morr only / only Morr / Morr), Priest of Morr, etc.
Normalized to Priest (god), Priest (Myrmidia) for example. Same done for Anointed Priest and Initiate.

Additional fixes/edits
Skills for Scout, Deepwatcher and Vitki ended up in Talents, moved to their proper place.
Tomb Raider to Tomb Robber in Deepwatcher Career entries, I can't find Tomb Raider anywhere, probably a typo from Companion carried over to Compendium.
Chaos Marauder to Marauder, 3 instances. No Chaos Marauder Career even in Tome of Corruption, other than one Khurgan NPC/enemy stat block.
Tome of Corruption
Deserving its own section, ToC Careers were the only ones in Career Compendium edited and changed (badly), and the only supplement whose Career chains were not finished.
Multiple instances of ToC page numbers and references to ToC removed, they were in parenthesis next to Careers in exits/entries.
Ulfwerenar was referenced in Career exits, it's not a Career but a mutation / "werewolf" form.
Cult Acolyte removed from Career entries/exits, there is no universal Cult Acolyte, each Chaos God has its own Acolyte Career with different Skills, Talents and advance scheme. In ToC they have special entry requirements, no Careers directly lead into them.

Hedge Witch - Career that does not exist

Hedge Witch was referenced in two Careers (Hedgecraft Apprentice as entry and Wise Woman as exit) but there is no Career by that name in any sourcebook. I spent a lot of time trying to fix this since I didn't want any "dead links" in entries/exits, in the end I just renamed those to Hedge Wizard.
The fluff text for Hedge Wizard says the term is Colleges of Magic's own dismissive label for self-taught spellcasters, and that ordinary peasants never actually call them that but Witches, Wise Ones or Wyrds.
Both links kinda make sense, Wise Woman abandoning her training, Hedge Wizard seeking some Hedgecraft training from a Master.

Text changes - subjective edits

Did some discretionary adjustments to a few Careers with only Any/None/Special entries, to make it more standardized or to fix some (to me) obvious errors.
Dilettante - changed entry to Special
Only Career where its special entry requirement was printed directly into entry field (To enter this Career, your previous Career must include Read/Write as a Skill), it was moved to notes and entry changed to Special.
Apprentice Witch - changed entry from Any to None
From notes and description it is clear those are recruited at young age from Gospodar girls. Any in Career entries made no sense, and I felt it's too narrow even for Special so I set it to None, since it only makes sense as first or second Career.
Wise Woman - changed entry from Any to Special
Similar to the above, notes and description say only Ungol females, made more sense to set it to Special since it is a Career you could enter later in life.
Steppes Nomad - changed entry from Any to Special
Career notes say you must be Ungol and you must be a member of a nomadic krug, Special made more sense.
Peasant - changed entry from None to Any.
Slave - changed entry from All to Special
Since it is an involuntary career, something your GM saddles you with, and has detailed notes and Special exit requirements, it just felt more clear this way.

Talent implementation notes

Talents Grail Virtue and Virtue of Knighthood don't have proper Talent description like the rest of group Talents, Rune(x) or Specialist Weapon Group(x). I didn't want to write it myself so I just copied the first paragraph of their sections, does the job but is kinda out of place and too long.
Focussed Strike Talent, introduced in Nights Dark Masters supplement, says in its description "You may take Focussed Strike in place of Strike to Injure in any career that offers the latter, or you can acquire both in such a career, at 100 XP each."
I added Focussed Strike as OR choice to Careers that have Strike to Injure, list of Careers:
Border Courtier, Chaos Warrior, Crusader, Cult Acolyte of Khorne, Cult Magus of Nurgle, Duellist, Estalian Diestro, Giant Slayer, Grail Knight, Kislevite Kossar, Knight Panther, Knight of the Blazing Sun, Knight of the Inner Circle, Man-at-Arms, Marauder, Pit Fighter, Priest, Protagonist, Questing Knight, Runelord, Shieldbreaker, Soldier, Thug, Vampire Hunter, Veteran, Warleader, Winged Lancer

Careers added (and two removed)

Clanrat and Clawleader removed as exits from Slave Career. Obviously Skaven progression, self-contained and outside of general Career system.
Added multiple Careers from Tome of Corruption, to finish progression of Careers already in Career Compendium. Those added Careers are marked with a + sign in source, Chaos Warrior source is listed as [ToC+], Marauder is [ToC].
Chaos Warrior chain: Chaos Knight, Aspiring Champion, Champion of Chaos, Exalted Champion of Chaos
Maledictor chain: Doomweaver, Soulflayer, Cataclyst
Vitki: not part of a chain, a Norse hedge-magic career
Added Cult Acolyte and Cult Magus for each Chaos God
Careers not added from other supplements: Sorcerer, Sorcerer Champion, Master Sorcerer, Sorcerer Lord, Chaos Engineer, Exalted Daemon, Daemon Prince, Bestigor, Beastman Champion, Bray-Shaman, Greater Bray-Shaman, Familiar, Trained Bear, Thrall, Vampire Count, Vampire Lord

Editing the file

Don't use notepad, the file is too big. Get a coding editor, like VScode.
Changing the theme - Find [data-theme="colTheme1"] near the beginning of the file, change its variables (`--page-bg`, `--text-link`, `--table-bg` etc), check online for color hex codes.
Then search for colTheme1, find <option value="colTheme1">synthwave</option>, change synthwave to your theme name.
You can also change colTheme2 (dracula), colTheme3 (gruvbox) etc.
Editing a Career - Search the file for a career (add : " before name so you find the actual Career entry not a reference in entries/exits). For example : "Admiral, everything is stored as plain, readable JSON and should be easy to figure out, change whatever field you need.
For new Career just copy old one (from the opening { to the closing },) and use it as a template.
